Teaching drawing and painting to people of all skill levels and art experience is one of my greatest pleasures. I have many years experience, starting out in 1985 teaching figure drawing, basic drawing and watercolor at the School of Visual Concepts in Seattle for 7 years. A few years later I spread my wings to include Seattle Central Community College, teaching illustration, basic drawing and figure drawing. Now I teach watercolor and drawing.
My teaching philosophy centers around creating a comfortable and supportive environment for swhere I focus on teaching students the fundamentals necessary for foundational understanding of WCs. Supportive From there students experimenting and finding their creative voice. I watch my students development closely and teach them individually, directing them towards their strengths. It's amazing and very rewarding to see the joy and passion they experience in learning the processes of creating pictures. We all learn from each other in my classes and I hope you will join us on this exciting adventure!

What my students have to say:
"Wonderful class! I'd been playing with watercolor for a few years but finally learned some of the "basics" about values and shadows and softening edges. Has improved my art so much. Thanks Kris - you're a great (& patient) teacher!" -Lisbeth "The class covered exactly what I wanted it to which was a basic understanding of watercolor and good practices with an emphasis on knowing your tools and materials so with practice you can start to see the beauty of the medium. Kris quickly assessed the needs of the students. Demos were very helpful as were specific homework assignments. Also, teaching us to value the translucent nature of the medium and the magic of letting the interaction between water and color do some of the work for you." -Judith "In four 2 hour lessons Kris taught us the basics of watercolor painting using her expert knowledge, sense of humor, and answers all questions in a methodical and thorough manner." -Kathy "Kris connected with each and every one of us. She encouraged, inspired, and convinced us that we could be proud of what ever we did." -Anonymous "Kris is passionate about watercolor and enjoys sharing that passion with others. She is a foundational methodology instructor; she explains the technique, demonstrates the technique, then provides support while her students practice the new technique. I am much more confident as an artist and willing to take risks while I practice." Shannon |
